I think I can safely assume I speak for a lot of us when I say I am OVER winter this year….amiright?! I want flowers and greenery and sunshine and warmth. Mother Nature is a lil on the slow side so why not help her out with a few little things you can do in your home to get the spring feeling until she gets the memo and nudges along with us.
Here are some of my favorite ways to spring things up in the house!
Color! Of course you knew I was going to say this one. ; ) But not just any color. Winter is usually heavy darker tones and winter whites. Spring it’s all about the light and bright. So swap out those drapes for some fresh springy drapes and pop a few new (or old if a you have a secret Home Goods room in your basement like I do) pillows with that pop of spring feeling color. Think soft pinks, yellows, pale blues and greens. What colors do you most like to see in the springtime outside? Bring those colors inside! This will get your home feeling much less winter blah and much more spring yah!
Put up the mustard yellow curtains and a few fresh pillows!
Rearrange some furniture. I do this all the time regardless of season, weather or time of day. But it’s an easy way to get an instant pick me up in your spaces, especially if you’re feeling uninspired and over it already. Something as simple as switching a couple of chairs and or taking 2 chairs from a different room and putting them in this room (swip swap) can make a big difference. If you are feeling emboldened change the whole room! I rearranged the family room again, a little bit this time, and put a reclaimed table along the wall of windows which opened up the fireplace and gave the kids somewhere to play games! This simple change opened up the whole space and made it more functional. It all feels so fresh and so clean clean!
You can really see the difference from this angle…the reclaimed table and bench by the window are my furniture changes in here!
Fresh flowers!! I LOVE fresh flowers and have them in the house year round. But spring is an especially fun time to have them. Tulips are a big one that evoke that spring feel but you can use any kind of flower you find at the grocery store or places like Costco. (I buy my flowers on clearance at the grocery store or at Costco depending on prices) As long as you pick up light bright colors! I just did a few bouquets, one all white with greenery, a hot pink roses bouquet and a pastel roses grouping in another. These replaced the tulips I had around. This is such an easy way to feel springy whether Mother Nature is agreeing outside or not.
The all white with greenery bouquet I put together. And to up the ante I placed it in an old silver ice bucket!
Scent… This might come as a surprise from me, but what comes with spring other than the beauty of it? The smell of all those beautiful blooming flowers in the garden. You can get candles almost anywhere (or incense whichever you prefer!) in a fresh flowery scent. I have 2 that are my go to’s. I love a smell in the house but not overwhelming and not perfume-y. My favorites are the Anthropologie Volcano candle, it’s fresh slightly citrusy with a hint of floral. Honestly the best smell EVER!! And the other is from Flashpoint Candle (I have partnered with them as an affiliate I love them so much! See the sidebar for a link and promo code!) they have some amazing scents but my favorite from them is the english pear, which is fruity and fresh. I have both of those candles all throughout the house and I LOVE the smell. Fresh and springy!
Here are my hot pink roses, a small plant grouping and the english pear candle from Flashpoint I talked about above!
And clean. I know, ewwww, this is the absolute worst thing I could mention ever! But we just cleaned all of our windows and screens and when the sun is shining it lets all of that beautiful light in without any dirt and grime filtering it out. (and believe me friends it was dirrrrrtyyyy) I guess they don’t call it spring cleaning for nothing right?! Give or take this one, cleaning is like my least fave thing to do on the planet but it was worth mentioning as it made a huge difference. Well hello sunshine, where have you been lately?!
