Barn Doors Or…..Pantry Doors on a Dime!!!

I think I may have forgotten to add to the prep to list checklist that we needed to replace our pantry doors.  They are originally part of the set we have over the fireplace and I want to take them with us, given they are a reclaimed set from India and they have a special place in my heart.  This meant that we needed to put something else up in their place.

Of course my thoughts immediately went to barn doors. But barn doors are very rustic and I had some concerns over the whole bar/pantry area feeling too rustic.  (Our bar and pantry countertops are DIY reclaimed trailer boards and the cabinets are stained dark grey, check it out here)  So I thought maybe we could build/DIY some and maybe polish up the style a little bit.  Except that takes time, a trip to the nearest home improvement store and a bit of $$.  And friends time is one thing we are running low on, listing in a few short weeks!

As I knew I wasn’t sold on barn doors anyway I thought I would give the reclaimed route a go. I wasn’t very hopeful as I had some specific things I wanted in these doors, a more polished style, solid wood and size.  I checked out all our local flea markets and thrifts and wouldn’t you know it I stumbled on these.

They were the PERFECT size and they turned out to be a pair of old closet doors (our space allowed for tall skinny doors at a max of 19″w x 81″h), solid wood, a pretty coppery stain AND were only $12 for the pair!!  You guys I couldn’t believe my eyes when I dug them out from the pile they were in!  They were almost gleaming at me saying “take me home”  “try us!!!” And for $12 I had to give it a go.

I got them home, hauled them in the house and propped them up where they would hang.

At this point I was feeling pretty darned good about this.  But getting them up in place would be the final test.

So we took down the old wood and iron doors (that are coming with me) and put the hardware on the new doors.

Popped them up on the track and voila!  They look better than I hoped!  Some variations in the wood and stain perfectly match the reclaimed copper bar sink, they aren’t so dark they overtake the space with the rest of the dark wood AND they have a more polished style with the paneling which nicely balances out the rustic countertops.

I can’t believe my luck!  The hubs saw them once they were up and said “only you could find the perfect doors for $12”  Yes my honey bunny and that’s one of the many reasons you love me.  🤗😁

Think outside the box my friends!  Check out some unexpected places when you are looking for something specific since you never know what kind of super cool things you will find and what kind of bargains you will stumble upon.  Not only did I find THE perfect doors but they were a STEAL!  Win-win folks, win win!

This is our oldest, perfectly demonstrating how I feel about finding these doors!
