Something absolutely crazy happened. My fave antique store (I shared it here) sold their building and are downsizing from 30,000 sq ft to 3,000 sq ft. Do you know what that means? It means they have to sell the vast majority of their inventory. Which means MAJA opportunity for me.
I happened to find out about this stellar clearance auction via their email newsletter! TIP: sign up for newsletters of your favorite stores!! I never would have known about this if I hadn’t. Last week I get this notice…. “hey we’re having an auction!” To which I immediately perked up! I purchased 2 things from them in the past, a set of antique doors from France and an old windsor bench (see them here!). They were marked way down during a sale and they were the only things I could afford. hahaha
When I say antique store I really mean antique store. This place has everything from all around the world. From a full room’s english oak paneling to doors from India to windows from Egypt to Swedish tavern signs to Chinese art. I really mean everything. I would love to just walk through, when I was in the area, as it was like a museum of decor you could buy. How incredible is that?!
Close up shot of moorish window!
So when I found out they were having an auction of course I immediately clicked the link and went through their several thousand pieces they were auctioning and you know what I found? All of these pieces I had been drooling over for years were now IN MY PRICE RANGE! Say WHAAAATTTT???!!
I am new to auctions, never attended one in person and this one I bid online (first foray into that as well). And I learned a lot. Things like don’t hesitate because you have maybe 10 seconds before someone else bids or it closes (lost a few that way) and you have no way of knowing how high something will go. (there was a table I lusted after for 2 years and it went for A LOT)
Anyway let’s fast forward to the good part…..what did I win?!!!
A pair of leaded glass hand painted Argentinian windows. They are insanely fragile but stunning!!!!
We put them up here so they wouldn’t get touched or bumped by children or dogs. And they really need the light shining through to highlight the beautiful painting details.
A double set of arched shutters from France circa late 1800’s with original hardware!
I have them flanking some of my fave art. They actually hinge together too so I can use them in several ways.
A 9 1/2 foot egyptian moorish window also 1800’s. This thing is stunning you guys!!
Here it is when we went to pick it up. You can see the colorful glass pieces!
In place at home, it really draws your eye up so it’s great for showings too. Highlighting the high ceilings! In the new house it would be great to find a spot where the light can shine through it.
And the mac daddy knock me over with a featha cause I can’t believe I own that piece!! An indian canopy bed the owner sourced from a palace in India, actually slept in by a princess. Circa early 1800’s. He told me the palace it came from along with the story of getting it home, etc. A one of a kind piece that I have big ideas for. Handcarved, a show stopping intricately detailed stunner. Our daughter is begging for it to be her bed, can’t say I blame her!
Since we are in selling mode (house is prepped and staged for showings) we have decided to wait on putting it together. I plan to design an entire room around this piece in the new house. So you will have to wait and see where she ends up but I know it will be UNBELIEVABLE.
This is from the other side, you can see the detail carvings and it shows you the size of it.
Auctions are my newest stellar resource! And since there are lots of online auctions now it makes it easily accessible anywhere you are! (just pay attention to locations for big pieces so you are aware of potential shipping costs) I ended up saving 95% off of the prices they had on them before auction. 95%!!!!!! My hubs was pretty impressed when we went to pick everything up. Yep I’m that good babe. ; )
Have you ever purchased any big or amazing pieces at auction and saved a bundle? I always love to hear from ya!
