Many home decor and furniture companies are making more eco friendly products for consumers, which is a GREAT thing! But what are some ways you can incorporate these things into your home and what kind of products are there?
Here’s a quick and fun infographic from one such company, Arhaus, who I’ve teamed up with to spread the word on how easy it is to be eco friendly at home! Arhaus has partnered up with the American Forest Foundation to provide eco friendly sustainable furniture and textiles. How amazing is that? Here are some of their furniture pieces made from reclaimed and recycled materials!
I love all of their suggested tips (along with mine there up on the left!).
Which is all about the low and no voc paints you can easily purchase pretty much anywhere you buy paint! Just check out the labels as they will typically tell you whether they are low or no voc. VOC stands for “volatile organic compounds” and they are chemicals that let off gases that give you that oh so lovely (insert sarcasm here) strong paint smell and pollute the air.
Using low and, better yet, no voc paint products in and around your home helps to keep the air pollution, from the chemicals in the paint, down. This is especially great for your and your families’ health!
There are several more options out there but these are my faves as they are pretty easily accessible for everyone and they provide great coverage. (it’s important to note some no voc paints do still have a smell but nothing as strong as regular paint)
Benjamin Moore Natura is a spendier brand but excellent paint quality with the added benefit of zero (no!!) vocs!
Behr is a great paint product that offers zero voc options and available at your local Home Depot.
And Sherwin Williams offers their Zero VOC Harmony paint, which is said to actually absorb voc’s from in the air!
And don’t forget about natural sealers/finishers for things like wood floors and wood countertops! I absolutely love this product (no affiliation) and actually used it for our reclaimed wood bar and pantry counters. It’s Vermont Natural Coatings and their finishers are made from whey, which is a byproduct of cheese making! How cool is that?! (you can check out their full info and product line here)
There are so many ways to be environmentally conscious now. I love that the products’ companies are giving us consumers more options which means the ability to be a lil kinder to Mother Nature.
Next time you shop for bedding, give the organic sets a look or the organic upholstery on that sectional sofa you love.
Shop vintage or thrift next time you need a new piece of furniture. You would be surprised the incredible things you can find not only significantly cheaper than new but with SO much more personality!
Or how about giving an old piece a makeover with some of that fancy zero voc paint! A two-fer eco friendly choice!
Do you have a great eco friendly home, diy or decor tip? I’d love to hear it!
And don’t forget that if you love this lil tidbit to hit up the subscribe oe’r yonder (on the right), it only sends ya an email when new posts go live!
Cheers to Mother Nature and to just doing a little bit but making a big impact.
