I talked about trends and whether to follow them here.  It’s a good idea to keep an eye on what’s hot in the design industry as there can be tons of inspo found by looking at what’s on trend right now. (although I should mention it doesn’t dictate my decisions at the end of the day if the trend isn’t my style).  Today, I’m going to talk about what’s having a moment and what I’m seeing EVERYWHERE.

  • Blush Pink

It started out this past spring and is still going strong as a gorgeous way to add color without being bold.  It’s soft, subtle, beautiful and elegant all at the same time.  (I happened to be in LOVE with pink for a couple of years now and decided to use it in my ORC Mom’s Oasis here!)

  • Navy and Brass

SUPER hot right now and that’s no accident.  Navy with brass accents sends a luxe, classic and sophisticated vibe that everyone can appreciate.  Think navy walls or navy furniture.  My dream piece of furniture is a vintage velvet navy or emerald chesterfield (I’ve spent years looking to no avail, cue the super sad face)  This is a go big or go home time for navy.

  • Brass

I know I already mentioned this one but it’s worth repeating.  Brass, matte, is in the spotlight. Think brass light fixtures, brass detailing on furniture (like the legs or base) brass lamps, drawer knobs etc. Although in my opinion you can’t go wrong with any metal as long as it’s matte and vintagey feeling.  Mixed metals is also a great look.

  • Velvet and Textures

It’s all about the luxe right now.  Luxurious materials, luxurious colors with deep jewel tones (Navy and emerald), luxurious metals, luxurious textures. Try velvet pillows, a velvet quilt or woven wall hangings.  Or how about some woven baskets, or a chunky knit throw.

  • Color!!

Color is very in right now, which I’m SO excited about.  All white everything has been around awhile and while it is classic and clean and won’t every really go out of style (too many fans of it!), it’s all about the color right now.  Dark walls that give a cozy and whoa I wanna sit here and sip a whiskey or something vibe.  Black, inky black (deep blue/black) pretty much just think of cool jewel tones.

Or for the neutral lovers dipping the toes into warm colors like camel and orange are a way to go. Ceilings are also fair game! No longer are they the unsung heros of our rooms, go for a bold color there but keep the walls light for maja impact.  If doing the walls or ceiling is too bold try it in the accessories (my go to ALWAYS)!

  • Unique Pieces

Now more than ever I am seeing my loves come to shine and that would be the vintage, unique, furniture pieces.  Things that are well made and full of style.  You can personalize an old dresser by painting it a fab color or find a cheap craigslist piece that has great lines and is heavy duty and give it a little make over.  A buffet, tv cabinet, bed frame, side tables….sky is the limit.  The only requirement for this is it’s not big box assembly line-ish.

This new trend direction definitely lends itself to a bohemian/eclectic type style (Woohoo!!) but using just some select elements that appeal to you makes it adaptable to every single style.  If you are intrigued by any of these try them out in small or big ways in your home and see what kind of difference it makes to your space.  What I love about all of these is that it’s more about making your home work for you than ever before through color usage, furniture placement and use of materials.

What do you think?  Would you paint your ceiling navy or emerald green?  How about the walls?  Are you still an all white everything lover and none of these appeal to you?

I’m loving it all and it’s nice to see things trend in a more colorful direction!

  1. Love your picks for trending designs to cover! I was so excited when jewel tones and swung into trend. It makes it easier to find the pieces I love and it’s so much fun seeing how others adapt it to their homes. The move towards color everywhere has been exciting and refreshing.

    1. I couldn’t agree more Jill! Color is life for me! And although I can appreciate a neutral palette it is so refreshing to see color!!
